Lack of Operational Support at Sites
Lack of adequate operational support (staff) at sites.
Would lead to unreliable services and unresponsive response to operational issues.
The majority of key services are now already run either at CERN or a few other Tier 1 stes. The future infrastructure models envisaged vias the data lake model will focus storage and data services (that require most attention) at large sites, serving data to others.
Commone solutions between LHC experiments also helps here, as sites only have to support a single set of services rather than very different things for each experiment. Continued effort towards commonality is important.
The other factor here is that many sites today also need to support othe HEP and astronomy experiments in addition to LHC. The move towards collabroative activity and commonality in terms of services, also reduces proliferation of differnces and relieves pressure on site operations teams.
